On Monday, 13th October, several sites like Ars Technica, VentureBeat, and The Verge reported that hackers claim to have stolen 7 million Dropbox passwords.
Dropbox stated that they were not hacked. Instead they say that the passwords were stolen from other sites and in turn, tried on Dropbox since many people use the same password for multiple sites. Several Posts on Reddit suggest that some of the published passwords have already been used to login to unsuspecting Dropbox accounts.
If you have important files on Dropbox, we recommend that you consider reviewing your file storage requirements. For example, using a lower key business solution, such as our own CE-Cloud, attracts less security hack attempts. Put it another way; to make a statement you have to hack a well known, well used global company and not a localised IT services company.
