What to do if your Sussex business has been hacked

There are so many different types of malware that can plunder your business and steal your data. Malware can easily be unleashed on your business – all it takes is one bad click in a dodgy email. These days, it’s harder and harder to spot these fake emails. One click and then boom, just like that, you’re locked out of your business accounts.

Imagine trying to log into your work computer for the day and you are unable to access anything. You then realise you are locked out and a notification comes up to say, “you have to pay £25,000 or you cannot access your data ever again”. Confused and frustrated, what do you do next?

Perhaps contact your boss to see if they are able to access the data, but if you are the boss, do you know what to do? This is a difficult, scary position to be in. Carry on reading to find out what to do next…

Your business has been hacked – this is what you should do

Contact your local IT support Sussex team and get them to investigate the issue further. They should have a backup of your business data to recover what has been stolen.

If you don’t have an IT support team or your ‘IT person’ is unsure of what to do next because this is out of their depth, then I suggest you get in touch with an IT support team local to you. If you are reading this and your business has already been hacked, then contact us immediately on 01273 806211 or check out our emergency cyber security page.

How to implement a cyber security plan

Once you have an understanding of where your business is going wrong then it’s time to implement a secure plan to keep your business safe.

This plan should be worked out with your IT support team. They should have enough knowledge and expertise to recommend what you need to do, to protect your business against cyber-threats.
