Why not having a backup system for Microsoft Office puts your data and files at severe risk

How much of a saviour has Office 365 been for us while working from home? All emails, files, documents, meetings, and conversations can all be accessible via the platform.
As amazing as Microsoft is for giving us such useful software for business, there is a big issue that not many people are aware of.

Microsoft does not back up your Office 365 data, and therefore does not guarantee against data loss.
Within the Microsoft Services agreement, section 6b, Microsoft state the following:

“We strive to keep services up and running; however, all online services suffer occasional disruptions and outages, and Microsoft is not liable for any disruption or loss you may suffer as a result. In the event of an outage, you may not be able to retrieve your content or data that you’ve stored. We recommend that you regularly backup your content and data that you store on the services or store using third-party apps and services”.

So, what does this mean for your business?

Microsoft could lose your data

Everything that is saved on your Office 365 could be lost and be impossible to retrieve again. Whether it’s a hardware malfunction, a computer error, or a cyber-attack, you won’t be covered in the event of data loss. Even something as small as a power cut could have devastating consequences. Imagine logging back onto your computer and all your important business documents are gone! Could your business survive the loss?
You’d think that such a big organisation such as Microsoft would backup your Office 365 data or at least communicate this issue with its users. Microsoft have not made this clear at all, so we want to not only educate people on this, but also provide a tangible solution. That’s why we offer a full backup and recovery system for Office 365.

Risk of cyber attack

Data is now the heart of any company and can cause exposure without backup. Data in the cloud can still be lost or, even scarier, be at risk of a security threat.

Cyber criminals are always lurking and waiting for any opportunity. They will seize your data, hold it as ransom and use it against you in exchange for money, when more often than not you don’t even get your data back.
This type of cyber attack is known as Ransomware. It’s estimated that a business will fall victim to a ransomware attack every 14 seconds.
